review 1: I had a really tough time finishing the book. While the central issue of the author may make some sense, the presentation was terrible. For pages after pages he continued with his rhetoric of art, creativity, connectivity without giving much concrete examples in the real world. He also did not explain why a new innovation which cuts the cost for the global supply chain for Walmart (benefiting shareholders and customers) is not an art or does not fit his idea of success. He continuously derided the industrial society and its production chain-forgetting the ways he is benefitting from it. While I certainly appreciate the qualities like creativity, risk taking and innovation, I fail to see what's preventing people from using those qualities and also why does not he see the mo... moredern conveniences as manifestations of precisely those qualities.
review 2: It is probably the best book I have read this year! It supported me and kept me on the path to becoming the artist at the same time consciously taking all risks and responsibilities. Looking forward and seeing the unknown may become part of artist's great success as well as it may become the great failure. Getting ready for failures, get up, get going and create again is part of artist's life. Even though I am already on this path, I think, anyone who is still undecided whether to start on one's own journey or continue serving time in a huge functional jail of industrialism will benefit from reading this book.
