review 1: There is never a dull moment from the first page to the last. What is amazing to me is how quickly the author pulls you into a story with very little action & adventure but will so much human drama so to speak that you find yourself flipping page after page drinking in every word in rapt attention.Ever since I read the book 'The Taking' by Dean Koontz I've fell in love with the idea that what if we didn't evolve. What if "God" didn't put us here but perhaps aliens did? What a thought. When I read the description on this book that maybe aliens "seeded" the earth with us, I knew I had to read this book! The majority of the book is about a ship of humans from Earth traveling to find non hostile humans on other planets. Such a planet is found but the earthlings are forced to en... moregage with the inhabitants of this planet years sooner than they would have ever expected. This is due to some issues with the safety of their space craft.Once the earthlings land the story really begins to tighten it's hold on the reader. We are introduced to many of the inhabitants on the planet, who look nothing like us, but are like us emotionally & mentally in many ways. For me the most fascinating part of the book was their view on how the earthlings looked. It reminded me of how we typically depict aliens. Big eyes, hairless, taller than us, quick & seeming fragile but deadly all at the same time. A fragile relationship is built between a inhabitant of the planet & one of the crew from the ship. They have to trust each other despite all odds. How will this turn out? Will the inhabitants decide that the earthlings are a threat & kill them? Will the earthlings feel threatened & unleash their own weapons? After all, it's very hard to communicate when you don't know each others language.A very thought provoking & powerful book worth reading over & over.
review 2: First, I'm gonna say that I really enjoyed the book. So the rest of what I say needs to be considered in that context. I had huge problems suspending disbelief in parts of the book. Two example: I'm not sure the mechanics of the Didetian solar systems is possible with respect to physics. And I'm pretty sure without expertise in linguistics that I could have better prepared a mission to be ready to communicate with human-like aliens. But. Once I let go of those sorts of things, I really did enjoy it. The dual points of view worked well, and made it easy to identify with the, um, domestic and imported humans. less

I liked the story, but it just ended, predictably and abruptly.
