review 1: I always appreciate the story with principles, and this book does the trick just fine. It's not phenomenal, but it is true--at least it appears to be the personal narrative of Greg and Sharon. Yes, the book is biased to Napolean Hill's "Think and Grow Rich" but all that does is show their passion for their belief in what they do! Enjoyable read, almost a 5-star if the end weren't so predictable, haha (though the surprise guest in New Zealand did get me :).
review 2: Decent book for anyone looking to expand their Napoleon Hill collection. Each chapter even begins with one of his quotes, while being woven into a story.Got hold of the audiobook some time back and began listening without paying attention to who the authors were, which made me think Greg was a ficti
... moreonal character with some real-life inspirational basis, even if I would think some aspects of the story were indeed worked in as they were. As the character "Greg" in the book begins as a real textbook narcissist (typically a great first impression... but time would steadily reveal them) and a chance encounter begins moving him in the direction of Napoleon Hill's ideas in Think and Grow Rich and really follows the path expected of a Napoleon Hill-inspired success story as Greg repairs his life.Personally I do not believe this book would seem that transformational to anyone unfamiliar with Napoleon Hill or readers who the authors have not yet established credibility with, along with the book probably moving a little too fast that readers might overlook the setbacks. The real value, and I suppose I might myself be completely missing a major point if I failed to say it, would probably be the recent success stories Greg meets along the way to publishing the book. (Greg Reid apparently was indeed designated as a kind of successor to Napoleon Hill's teachings by the foundation of the same name.)Somewhat offtopic:Was an interesting who's who of names dropped throughout the book, such as the late Charlie "Tremendous" Jones (always associated him more with the also late Jim Rohn's sphere of influence), Bob Proctor (some day I will get to his material), Rhonda Byrne (I saw the movie for "The Secret" and thought it more wishful than positive thinking and has put me off on reading her book of the same name for some time to come), John Burley (mentioned in acknowledgments.. he's the real estate giant, unless there are two people by that name), and, funny the introduction well into the book of Sharon Lechter, who authored it. Is interesting the mention of Bill Bartmann, who made a fortune and lost it. My understanding of it being Bartmann really wanted as much ownership of the business he founded as he could -- as probably an eternal optimist of greater heights to come -- but was undone by corrupt employees/partners in the business who committed fraud. Now he is a motivational speaker, but found him quite overrated after starting to consume Napoleon Hill's works. For all the talk though of how great Hill's Think and Grow Rich is, I thought his The Law of Success was better. Either way, does make for interesting reviews how apparently "modernized" versions of the books took out the original religious references Hill had which, whether religious or just wishing to read it as the author intended, definitely seems to irk many. There is an interesting quote in my reading journey I came across a long while back of how, while Hill was trying to come up with the name, his publisher threatened to choose the title "How to Use Your Noodle to Make a Boodle" which, when the story was told to Norman Vincent Peale, he could not help but observe it was essentially same meaning as "Think and Grow Rich" which Hill got in an apparent flash of insight. less
