review 1: This volume in the series took several odd twists of direction, but in an overall very interesting manner. It's not everyone that has a stalker that just happens to be a starship with an artificial intelligence built in, but that's Theo's situation. All she has to do is make peace with it and get it to heal her seriously injured friend and lover, with technologies outlawed in various places, all while trying to survive the complications of her new-found family. The AI systems in this volume, both the ship and Jeeves, are interesting characters. They have distinct "personalities" that work well within the story.I'm still trying to figure out the sources of some of the conflicts and cultural taboos within the Liaden universe, but each Liaden book that I read makes some of them... more a bit more clear. I'm picking up the next book right away, because I really want to find out what comes next.
review 2: This is a very complex novel, and not the place to begin reading in the Liaden series. Fledgling and Saltation are novels about Theo and stand alone effectively. While Ghost Ship is (as labeled) the sequel to Saltation, it is also the sequel to I Dare. Indeed, to fully appreciate this novel, it would help to have also read Fledgling, Carpe Diem, and Plan B. In reality this novel moves forward the timeline of the entire Clan Korval. That being said, this is terrific. I found it very hard to put down. Recommended for both Doc and Kent, but only within the sequence as described above. less
