review 1: I'm gulping down these science fiction novels in the Liaden Universe. This next in the series continues the story of Theo, who has entered flight school on another planet. The blurb said that these books were "Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Academy in a science fiction setting," which is a nice description of these two books about Theo Waitley as she goes to school and learns how to be a pilot, but not so true of the other books in the series. I liked the title, "Saltation," which means "that which proceeds by leaps rather than by smooth and orderly progression." And that is how Theo's time at school is best described as she leaps forward ahead of her classmates, and draws attention to herself both negatively and positively because of it.
review 2: In this episode T... moreheo enters Pilot Academy and catapults to notoriety and status (the title means: Advancing in leaps rather than gradual progression). Very smooth and readable space opera, though a little thin on things actually happening. Will read on in this series.I read the paperback, and there is a terrific "readers advisory" list at the end: "If you like [name of renowned SF author, or particular theme], then you'll like..." less
