review 1: If I hadn't already read the series that comes after this one, I probably wouldn't have stuck with these books. The time jumps are necessary, but they made me want to pull out my hair. I almost started taking notes in an attempt to keep the event timeline straight. Her writing has definitely progressed in her later series; this one is mix of very short, choppy phrases with big walls of text scattered through. That said, I loved the characters from the ascension series enough to wade through this prequel series.
review 2: I got this series as a freebie download. It's the first three books in the Descent Series, and I have to say, this is so not my cup of tea. I can't connect to the characters. I'm 15% into book 1, and the story is jumping all over the plac... moree. It starts in one year, chapter 2 is in several years before then. Chapter 3 is years after both of these, and so on and so forth. It's also seeming more horror than paranormal, and I don't do horror. This might be up someone else's alley, but it's not mine. Not going to continue on. less
