review 1: I only vaguely remember buying this anthology at Midtown Comics and had no idea what the overarching idea was here. I was surprised to see that it was all Southeast Asian work. The artwork was absolutely gorgeous in most if not all of the stories. Some of the stories were a little strange but I found myself wondering if there were cultural norms that I was unaware of that would have helped make more sense of the stories. Overall very much worth a look for the artwork alone.
review 2: This graphic novel anthology is becoming a slight disappointment. The moment I saw the cover, I felt the need to read it. I then purchased it and read the most promising forward. The editor explained how comic books are the best way to relate culture because you do not have ... moreto worry about language in them. Then I started to read. Some of the stories were excellent and still haunt me while others were simply dull or just plain weird.I think this may be something to look into after I return from China. It may be more interesting even though it takes place in a whole different part of Asia.We'll see. less
