review 1: I picked this novel up at the school library, intrigued because the cover mentioned that it was based on a line in Wally Lamb's The Hour I first believed. Wally Lamb's book was amazing--tough to read, but amazing. This one fits into that category, but it is intended as a YA novel. And it's one with a lot of heart. I've not read any of Susin Nelson's other work, but I will be much more likely to pick up some of it now that I've read this one. Tough subjects handled expertly.
