review 1: I picked this up on a whim at Walmart when I was in need of a book to read to pass some time. I didn't realize at the time that it was part of a series and was very delighted to find that not only was it an excellent read, but I wasn't lost for not having read the previous 3 books. I absolutely loved Emily, she's a great heroine and Nate was the perfect eccentric hero. The way Ebberling was dealt with can only be summed up in a single word: masterfully. I absolutely loved this book and promptly ordered the 3 other books in the series. Great for a stand alone read, and just a fantastic read overall. Very much a fun of Suzanne Enoch now!
review 2: I've really been enjoying the Tantalus Club books, and quiet Emily, always staying in, has been an intriguing figure
... morein the other books. Watching Emily and Nate dance around one another in a game of secrets and hidden motivations was quite entertaining (though I did occasionally feel the desire to smack Nate on the nose for his prodding curiosity that was going to get Emily into VERY BAD TROUBLE. *MEN.*)The suspenseful mystery (sorry, mysterIES) were particularly good, but the denouement... oh, that was *priceless.* Emily and Nate's HEA does not come without cost, and I was just fine with that. I appreciated that, in that time period, crossing the nobility has consequences, and to me it was a sign of Nate's commitment to her that he was willing to go there. less

Nice Historical Romance.... secrets, rich people, marvelous gowns and a bit of a mystery!

The ending was not happy. There wasn't even an epilogue to see if all turned out well.

It was cute but a bit boring. I skipped a lot. Ending was great.

I do like a series where characters from earlier works show up.
