review 1: Thoroughly enjoyed this one! Finding myself wanting to defend the book against a lot of the reviews I've read. I do think the characters are pretty well rounded out. I do find Antoine believable (though perhaps not someone I want to hang out with). And I am intrigued by Angele. Wish there was more of her in the story - perhaps a great central character for another book? And yes, the big secret isn't such a big deal in 2014, but it sure the heck was in 1973 in the conservative muckety muck society in Paris (or anywhere else for that matter). A good read - looking forward to more by this author.
review 2: This is my second book by this author as I read Sarah's Key which was amazing. This book did not live up to Sarah's Key what so ever. While I was hoping
... more this book would be as good, it was not even close. This book takes place in France so there are many French words, I didn't know. That was not a big deal if the story itself was a good one. By the time, you figure out what the secret is, it's not that a big of a deal to the point that the brother and sister are trying to figure out what happened to their mother when she died when they were young, they find out and the sister says she doesn't want to know anything right before the big secret is revealed. The main character while he goes through a transformation, he is not someone you relate to or even that exciting. He is pretty boring and you want to pity him in that annoying way but not a way that you feel bad for him and empathize with him, you just want to kick him and tell him to do something. It's an ok book but a big letdown from her other book. I'm still debating whether to try another one of her books or just give up on this author. less

I liked it but not as much as Sarah's Key- not as good a plot. Great writing though.

Goed leesbaar, maar de formule is wel erg hetzelfde als "Haar naam was Sarah".

Found in holiday house - left behind in holiday house! Cheesy, corny etc etc.

It's a dark, disturbing family saga.
