review 1: The last book in the trilogy and it was brilliant. Hawk, the Ghosts, Knights, Elves and other assorted survivors, struggle across country to the place where they will be safe from the coming apocalypse, but with assorted demons on their tail, real and imagined, it won't be the easiest of routes. Each has to face trials, but only Hawk realises what sacrifice it will take to ensure their survival. Meanwhile, trapped and alone in an old military base, a soldier with the keys to America's nuclear arsenal, begins to wonder why he should bother going on.A fantastic end - there is so much going on in this book, that you feel as if you don't breathe from cover to cover. The smaller stories between the characters are just as important and intriguing as the main one, and I found mys... moreelf crying and laughing in turn. A series I know that I will return to again and again.
review 2: I finally finished the series. It is a good trilogy with some good lessons for the humans populating the Earth today. Brooks doesn't preach, but reminds us of our behavior and what life could (might?) be like. An interesting twist that he frames this story with, although by the time you got to the very last chapter, it wasn't much of a surprise. Still a good series. I don't plan to begin the Shanara Series in earnest because I don't think I can commit to 13+ books in a series. less
