review 1: I guess I am tiring of these books. I did not enjoy this at all. The heroes die (badly) right, left, center, up, down, sideways, etc. etc. But even more than that, the heroes of this book are not very bright. Calling them dumb is being kind. Terry Brooks keeps setting up foreshadowing passages that I can see coming from a mile away, but the heroes of the book are unable to use simple logic to determine that someone (something) is coming to kill them. For a story like this, you need good heroes or good villains (preferably both), this book has neither. While the villains are significantly smarter than the good guys, they don’t rise to the level of ‘love to hate’ that makes it fun when they meet their end. I have to admit that I will read the next book in the tr... moreilogy, ‘Witch Wraith’, but after that, I am going to stop reading Terry Brooks books for a while.
review 2: Disclaimer: I am a monstrous fan of Terry Brooks and have grown up reading every single book he has every churned out from that brilliant mind of his.Bloodfire Quest brings us back to the world of Shannara, or rather way way much after. As always the elven descendants from the very first king of Shannara are once again embroiled in another dangerous and life-threatening task. Then again, when has any of the tasks been non-life threatening?Like the formula for all of his books, there will always be a sacrifice. I'm beginning to think that the generic theme that spans across all the books is just sacrifice. Death, dismay, despair but he manages to bring happy rainbow fuzzy feelings at the end of the book (well, the trilogies really) so that you don't feel so broken-hearted and wrenched apart. The transitions between the locations and mindsets of the different focal characters have always been fluid. Coupled together with simple yet brilliant prose, it's just the kind of book that you don't want to put down unless you're being forced to, at gun point.I might be biased in my review but I do know that after going through several fantasy books written by a myriad of authors with different styles and formulas, whatever comes out from Terry Brook is still gold. less

Book 2 In the Dark Legacy of Shannara series, and quite the continuing adventure. The Druid and Elves have had nothing but trouble during their individual quests for an ancient magic. The descendents of the old families in the Shannara series continue to be near the forefront of these trials and tribulations. Now they must seek out another vital person who's been gone a very long time in order to prevent an ancient enemy from taking advantage of a failing Ellcrys magic barrier. All along the Federation keeps trying to prevent the Druid and Elves from attaining their goals. The four lands are sorely threatened again.

Terry Brooks never disappoints. This series has held me captive from it's first days. I love the characters of Redden and Railing and Mirai. All descendants from characters from earlier books. His vision for this world is always consistent and spot on. Brooks is one of the few writers who can extend a series without it getting boring or becoming the same story told over and over again. I can't wait to read the next one.
