review 1: The book picks up the theme of Book # 1 nicely. It is fast paced, with action and adventure and even some character development. For any that followed my review of the first book of this series my only qualm is the inherent development of technology in this particular series that takes it somewhat out of the realm of Fantasy and straddles the Sci Fi genre which veers away form the straight fantasy of the original series. That said, it still does a nice job on the whole although i truly miss the deep characters of the original like Allanon and his own mentor.
review 2: I found that I liked Bloodfire Quest more than Wards of Faerie. Brooks keeps the story moving along at what I thought was a good and even pace. The plot of this book follows the familiar Broo
... moreks formula. And why not, if something isn't broke don't fix it. The Brooks formula is that a small group of heroes set out on a quest to save the world in some form or the other. There is always an Ohmsford or two involved who are able to use the magic they are born with to help the group successfully complete the quest. If you are a fan of Brooks then you will likely enjoy this book. If you are new to Brooks' work then you should read Wards of Faerie first as I do not like to start in the middle. However, if you choose to read this first there is no reason to fear as Brooks provides enough background from Wards of Faerie to get the reader up to speed on where the story stands.I personally have been a fan of Brooks' Shannara world since the early 80's when I first read The Elfstones of Shannara. By now reading a Shannara book is like going home to visit old friends; comfortable, familiar and a lot of fun. less
