review 1: The Fallen By: Thomas E. SniegoskiAaron Corbet lived a normal teenage life. He had his wonderful foster parents, Lori and Tom Stanley, along with their son Stevie. Aaron also had his best friend Gabriel, his dog. Life was good for this quiet boy, then that all changed on his eighteenth birthday. He began to hear voices in his head. He also began speaking and understanding multiple languages. This was only the beginning. Things got even stranger when a mysterious man started to follow Aaron around. This man was a fallen angel named Ezekiel or also known as Zeke. He explains to Aaron that his destiny was to be the Nephilium. A bridge between heaven and the fallen, Aaron is the one who will fulfill this angelic prophecy. Danger lurks everywhere especially when The Powers, who... more are God’s angels are going around slaying all of the fallen from heaven to make sure the prophecy does not come true.Pros: Right from the beginning this book gave me chills. The cover was simple but gorgeous its own way. The dark beautiful boy, Aaron with his angel wings is what drew you into the book. I loved the imagery and descriptions of the characters and the scenery. Every detail drew you deeper and deeper within the story. The angels, in my opinion left you speechless for it was a different view of angels that one would normally see. I adored some of the characters, Aaron was very quiet and mysterious at the beginning but as you read more you would start to realized that he really wasn’t what he seemed. Another character I really enjoyed was his dog, Gabriel. His dog really added a sense of humor even in the most serious of moments with his charm. Camael was my favorite of the fallen angels. He was strong and determined and a great fighter which was very alluring.Cons: The antagonist in the book really irritated me. Verchiel, who was the leader of The Powers was rude, cruel, and malicious. He was all about the purity of heaven. He viewed humans, along with all the fallen angels as filth and should be treated as such. He believed that heaven should only let those that were truly righteous and worthy to enter. Every time he spoke or did anything in the book it made me grind my teeth in anger. Verchiel also killed Aaron’s parents and took away his brother for his desire, that the child would have great potential as a tracker. A tracker was someone that hunted down those who have fallen from heaven and lead the powers to them to be killed. He had his own ambitions and it was questioned if god really wanted what Verchiel was doing. In conclusion this book is fantastic. It’s very in depth and keeps you wanting to know more and not stop reading. It’s mysterious and thrilling.I would give it a 4/5
review 2: *SPOILER ALERT* Have you ever woken up and found out you can speak all kinds of languages, even non-human languages (i.e. dog, lizard, insect, etc.)? Well Aaron Corbet Had experienced all of this and more, much, much, more. This book is fantasy and is absolutly amazing and full of mystery that will keep you guessing and wondering and on the edge of your seat. After a huge migraine in the morning just before lunch it hits its peak and he sees colors and hears a loud whine and then it just vanishes just before hes about to faint and he discovers he can hear and understand the Pueorto Rican girls speaking their native language down the hall. Confused, and a little scared he runs down the hall wondering how he understood them when he only took spanish in his freshman year and he failed it he then wondered if he's going insane and goes to see his therapist who ends up gwtting burned to death along with his office building by the people correction angels who are hunting down Aaron and are hell bent on terminating his life. This is person vs. person, person vs. self , and person vs. fate. It is PvP because there is a lot of battles such as when Aaron unlocked his inner angelic nature and fought one of the powers. It's PvS because Aaron just wants a normal life and to be human but his angelic half is begging to be set free. Last but not least it's PvF because Aaron was born a nephilim (a child of an angel and a mortal) and no matter how much he wants to be human he will never be. Aaron is hard headed and in my opinion weak mentally like if i was in his position i wouldve acted much differntly for example if i found out i was part angel and i have this big destiny id own up to it and be like "awesome what do i gotta do?" i wish that someone else was main character but what are you gonna do? Vilma Santiago is the puerto rican girl and she is in love with Aaron as Aaron is in love with her, she is sweet, shy, and kind. I was absolutly and completely surprised when Zeke (a grigori: a fallen angel) was killed in battle because he played a huge role in the book such as completely unlocking Aarons true angelic nature.I was dissapointed and angry at Aaron when he wouldnt unlock and let free his angelic nature even when him and his friends were about to be killed and he is like i need to unleash his angelic half but then he stopped and thought no i hurt a lot getting my wings out and he didnt do anything si im just like "DUDE ARE YOU BEING REAL RIGHT NOW?! YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS ARE ABOUT TO DIE!! The one i really enjoyed about the book over everything else is how much action was constantly present there had to be a fight scene or something intense at least every 10 pages, for example Aaron was sneaking around trying to figure out what was going on in this weird town and he almost got caught and the way it was wrote just nervous and scared as if you WERE Aaron. When Aaron's friend an angel who was a former leader of the powers was kidnapped I was nervous for him like i figured he wouldnt die since he is a main character but that is what i thought about Zeke and he got killed so i was like "Oh my god what is Aaron gonna do without his mentor?!" I mean he basically was his protector since Aaron was to scared to unleash his angelic nature and summon fire swords and wings but in a way it was good because it was like a growing experience for him to where he's not as scared to go full angel and grow wings. In the fight scene where Aaron was fighting the Levianthan im like "ooooohhh it's gonna get REAL!UP!IN!HERE!"and he was owning it then when the messanger woke up and Aaron gave him his sword im like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?" but then Aaron's like "this isn't mine *then summons his own personalized sword and says*but this is!" I was like "Oh my god it just got real like i said!!!" OK so all in all i really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to finishing the series. It put me through an emotional roller coaster making me laugh scream and get sad and i enjoyed every second of it. I give this book a 9 it would be a 10 but i feel Aaron should have owned up to what he was and excepted his duty as a thing of legends that can rapture the fallen angels. I reccomend this book to everyone and anyone if your 10 and up because some things may be to difficult to understand to a young-on. So if you ever have a bad day or feel sad just remember Aaron left school, his friends, and the love of his life to protect them and live up to his destiny. less
