review 1: I didn't realize this was the 3rd book in a trilogy when I started reading it but still enjoyed it so may pick up the first 2 books now. The main character is a young guy with a major anxiety disorder with regular panic attacks that I think really became its own character (if that makes sense). Sounds like a lot of fun, right? :-) But the characters including the Kid (main characters), his older brother and the brother's husband are kind of painfully quirky and enjoyable. (all three are gay). A major theme is not our biological but our "logical" families; the ones that we create with others that love us and take us for who we are including our occasional panic attacks and screwed up love lives. I like it. With that said, I did get a tad tired of hearing this kid's inner... more voice constantly and everyone falling over them selves each time he sneezed or ran away from home. I'd give it a 3 and 1/2 star if I had that option!
review 2: *3.5 stars*I just happened to read the 1st book 5 days ago, and I must say I'm a fan.Took 3 days to finish first 2 books with so much excitement for the third one.Now I've finished 3/4 of it and it breaks my heart to say I don't like it as its elder brothers and I considered giving it 3 stars only.Don't get me wrong, this book is still a gem with so many OUTSTANDING moments (especially the first party when Bear, Otter and the Kid got back home and the protest with beach hippies - I still can't stop laughing now)The brotherly talks are good too. Bear really is my favorite character in the series, ever! However, I find it so difficult for me to understand the Kid character's development. He is like Bear no.2 with a conscience not as charming and adorable as the original one.I know Bear crazy (and I love it!) but he has a fair share of his craziness between thinking for himself and others. The Kid, not so much! That left me wonder how could he become such a selfish and weak person, with all the strength he's shown us in the first 2 books. I can see he's hurt and things, but then I read and read and read, and all I can see in his head is like this "I, I, I, I, I, my this, my that, Bear, Mrs. P, Dom, Dom, I, I, I....". I actually have to restrain myself not to scream "Common, out of your head and ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING!". But his thoughts keeps dragging, to the point I have to stop reading to type this review. So disappointed with a so-called genius like him (he used to be much much cooler than this - be that Kid again, please!)100 or so pages to go. I sneaked peek on the ending so I can continue, knowing that there will be an ending eventually (bad, bad me - I know T.T)One last whining before I'm back to reading: To me, the romance between Ty (he's not the Kid I used to love anymore, sniff) and Dom is kinda shallow.... I don't know, maybe it's only me who cannot get it. Still prefer Bear and Otter way way more. Hope the 4th book will be Bear or Otter's POV. I'm pretty sure not wanting to hear Ty's thoughts ever again after this. less
