review 1: Dude really knows what's he's doing; I'm impressed by both of his books and he deserves to be mentioned in the same list as Chabon, Eggers, Safran-Foer and that lot (he may even rise above them and reach heights such as Murakami and Mitchell!). His touch with characters is subtle and authentic. He is deft at creating various ages, emotions, and experiences. His characters inhale and exhale as one turns the page. I was completely Besotted with this read.

Through a series of flashbacks the reader learns her background is indeed puzzling and contradictory. The one constant in her life after her earliest memories o... moref Paul is Humphrey a reclusive Russian with a troubled past of his own. When Tooly hears from an old boyfriend that Humphrey is in need of help Tooly travels to Brooklyn and begins a search for the truth. The flashbacks and her present search combine to show Tooly and the reader exactly how callous and manipulative some people can be and more importantly what true love looks like, a lesson she takes with her when she returns to Wales. less
