review 1: I spent the whole weekend AND the beginning of the week with Aleo's "Assassins" series. Every book met my five-star-rating. I connected with the story, felt the character's emotion and couldn't put the book away. I devoured every page. Normally I'm getting confused with stories written in third-person narratives. Most of the time I think it's the wrong choice of narration method for a contemporary love story. It is easier to connect with the story and feel the characters's emotion when the story is written in first-person narrative but Aleo's writing style is good and vivid enough to accomplish that. I laughed out loud, teared up and cried. "Empty Net" is the first story I read about a age gap between the main characters and I liked the fact that Audrey is the older one. E... moreverything is in there and I loved Audrey's and Tate's relationship.
review 2: When I saw that this book had Audrey I really hoped that Levi wouldn't be around, as I hated him in the last book. He was such an ass and Audrey deserved so much better.I found Tate to be quite charming, despite his age. I tended to forget that he was so young until it was brought up. I hated how Tate felt so alone, but having lost your family like he did and then moving to a different country would make anyone feel that way.I loved how Audrey and Tate met, loved that both were smitten, but hated how Audrey freaked out and left without realizing who was who. The only good thing about it, was that it made for a great "first" meeting later. While I did get annoyed with Audrey's drama being attracted to Tate, I got it. The age difference really threw her as did his being a decent stand up guy, something that Audrey isn't used to.I did like how Tate used the whole "friend" status to get to Audrey. It was like they were dating without the pressures. Although when the two started to date, it was even better. They were so cute and everyone around them seemed to think so too. Just when I was all ready for the HEA and the extra bonus we had all the drama at the end. I would say it surprised me, but not really. I always knew there was something rotten there. I hated what came next, how things were in limbo. The only good thing that came out of it was everyone knew everyone else's true feelings. less
