review 1: The premise here is that the heroine is England's best spy during the Napoleonic wars. At the beginning of the book, the hero rescues her from the dungeons of her captor's hold. She's severely traumatized and has some nasty PTSD going on. However, the author decided that hey, "the hero repeatedly touching and kissing the heroine will totally be cool when she's having blackouts from her fear." The mystery was okay, but totally unrealistic.
review 2: I haven't read an historical romance in a very long while and actually won this copy of ALR. I must say I once again am hooked. ... mores "history", i.e. dress, food, even speaking, to get me in touch with that era.... BUT I really did enjoy the read. Guy and Cora, friends since childhood meet once again, older, wiser, when Guy saves her from certain death in a dungeon in France, both working as spies for England, unknown to each other as working together under different guise, they fall in love, (again?), but before they can actually get together have harrowing adventures to get there. Enjoyed the plot and characters and will continue to read the series! less
