review 1: This is such a great book. A really good book, a good adventure thrill ride! I have never really read such a good Science Fiction in a long time! The characters were well written, the plot was exciting and the action in it was just flawless. This really reminded me of Reboot, but it isn't the same. This book had it's seriousness and weight of Kade's decision. I could feel his dilemma and the emotions from the characters conveyed really well. I felt really angry with the ERD because of what they did to Su Yong Shu. I am really excited to see what's installed for the next book and really hope that I wouldn't bore me out. ... moreelmed the potential thoughtful exploration of a technological innovation. Elements of 60's drug-culture mashed with a 1984 type big-brother government agency updated for 2014 (or 2040) gave this novel a derivative feel. The author's position on the subjects of post-humanism and the effect of new technology on society was abundantly clear even if his main character dithered - and seemed to finally act by default. Focusing on the moral implications of the technology, its possible - and probable uses, and the conflicts this should have generated within and between the developers would have been a sufficiently compelling story without the exploding bodies and crashing helicopters. less
