review 1: ** Spoiler alert ** Please read this! There are some spoilers below. If you don’t not want to find out who M J choice to be with than DO NOT READ BELOW. I love audio books and this series is narrated By Eileen Stevens. She has done a wonderful job reading this series. I’m listening to series again and updated Victoria Laurie latest book in this series (“What a Ghoul Wants” book 7). I just remember why I put this series off so long to listen to it. I hate when authors change love interest with the main character. Very few authors can pull it off for me to keep reading their books like Kim Harrison (The Hollows series). I feel that the author didn't do a good job making me wanted M J & Heath together. I really do enjoy this series about the ghost busting. I don't l... moreike, however, how the author does not really explain the progression of the relationships in the book between M J and Dr. Sable. In book four (Ghouls Gone Wild) you can tell her attraction to fellow psychic medium, Heath, is growing. She has broken up with Dr. Sable by the next book “Ghouls, Ghouls, Ghouls” (book 5). Obviously, hints are in the 4th book (Ghouls Gone Wild) regarding the way thing are heading. I'd just like more explanation regarding their relationships. I know this book is not about relationship, but the relationship with Steve beginning and ending could have been developed more! Small talk with her BFF(s) about her relationship would had make it more believable and help us transition on the new guy! Readers should not have to wait for the reason why she is with Heath in book 6 (“Ghoul Interrupted”). She is going to be with Heath. I just want a better closer with Steven then “I have broken it off with Steven” where it happen between books. Maybe for those who like Steven will get that closer in book 8 (The Ghoul Next Door), so we can accept Heath as M J boyfriend. Her girlfriend made a comment about seeing the Doctor on a date with another woman in book 6 (“Ghoul Interrupted”). Some of the comment made in book 6 about her relationship with Steven should have been in book 5 (“Ghouls, Ghouls, Ghouls”).I feel M J never really want to commit to Steven because of her behaviors in the last 4 books. The first book she kept pushing him away. I understand it in the first book that she didn't want to mix business with pleasure. The second book she didn't know how to communicate with Steven about how doing the job takes up most of her energy and she really need to focus on the job. Plus she made him feel like a third wheel. By the end of the third book, M J and Steven's relationship was going to a great place there was even "I love you" exchanged. In book 4,they aren't even talking, talk about a 180. There wasn't much explanation except that their schedules didn't coincide. And then she was getting all cozy with Heath. All we gotten from the 4th book (Ghouls Gone Wild) that they are moving apart. I feel that I had invested 3 books on their relationship and got cheated!! I didn't like how Author ends the 4th book and it just doesn't sit right with me. My heart went out to Dr. Delicious on how he found out about M J and Heath growing relationship. Book 4 made me mad at M J on how she handles the relationships with Steven and Heath. She didn't make an effort getting in contact with him while she was over sea in the 4th book. She only calls him 2 times and didn't think of asking Gilley for Steven phone # since Steven does own part of the company. Plus I like Steven, and Heath never really click with me. Do you remember when Steven wants to get romance with her in book 2? She stated that she needed to concentrate on her job. Yet in “Ghouls, Ghouls, Ghouls” (book 5), she & Heath did the horizontal mambo. Yes, Heath and M J have a lot in common with their job. I can see that Mrs. Laurie wants M J to have a partner that can relate to her ability, but I felt that Steven could have given M J that! I know the author just want to take the story lines in another direction and Steven just didn't fix in her plans of the stories for romance with M J.Again,I know these books are not a romance! But I hate change of lover in middle of the series without a good reason. Growing apart is a weak reason to end their relationship without putting anything into it. Just because you are attract to someone does not mean that you have to act on it! Yes, Heath is nice but as a friend. Men and women can be friends with out wanted to have sex. Well, thank for reading this and sorry for being so long!
review 2: This book has MJ & company investigating a castle on its own rocky island and almost immediately cheers me up by having Gopher disappear, because he's the most annoying recurring character to me. Gilley gets pretty irritating, too, and I believe at one point he and MJ destroy some poor woman's kitchen in a selfish spat, which was a weird scene to me. The mystery is good and it has a rather touching resolution. I think I read this in like a day - a quick "cookie book" to snack on in between more serious reads. less
