review 1: I won't pretend that I could look at any enry in this series objectivley with everything Mosley as a talent and Easy Rawlins as a character have meant to my personal ambiions as a writer. My take on books in the Rawlins series tend to fall on the "disappoined" or amazed side of the fence and rarely in between. To me that's a sign of of emotional invesment and continually consistent story telling. Mosley delivers the latter in this entry geared towards long time readers (the title of the book iself will serve as an "ah-ha" type of revelation to those that have read or followed the character since "Devil in the blue dress") yet accesible (in my opinion)as an introduction/stand alone story for those delving into the world featuring Easy, the charming yet murderous Mouse and t... morehe other routine players for the first time.
review 2: It was nice hanging out with Easy Rawlins again. When I read these books I always picture Denzel Washington as Easy Rawlins. I don't know much about criminal activity but the events of this book seemed realistic to me. I not sure how long LSD trips last but this part seemed a bit excessive. But then again Walter Mosley could be correct and LSD trips last many days. At any rate, I enjoyed the story and I liked the characters. Mouse never disappoints and we got to see his somewhat tender side early in this book. less
