review 1: Space empire with Vietnamese culture is riven by revolt, and a refugee civil servant arrives on a remote space station hoping for sanctuary. Her welcome is a cold one, not only because of personal incompatibility with with station's human supervisor, but because the station's AI is failing. Setting is well rendered, I guess, but I'm just the wrong reader for this one....it seemed long and slow to me, with lots of obscure motives and agendas.
review 2: Dense and evocative, and in 100 measly pages it gave breath to characters that are complex, relatable, and fully human. ... morehe home front, pride, artificial intelligence, and the concept of familial obligation. In a hundred pages. And it does it well. Not a word is wasted, including the poetry. I am astounded - full stop. less
