review 1: The concept of SoulFinder, an organization that can help anyone find their mate, had me fascinated from the start. As much as it is pure fantasy, and even the paranormals in this story doubt its effectiveness, it is a wonderful idea. Both characters in this short story have lived for centuries without finding each other, both are desperate enough to use “a professional service” to help them, and neither of them really expects it to work. The tension of what to expect experienced by Darwin as he walks up to the door behind which his mate is supposed to be pulled me right in, and I was as curious as Darwin about what would happen next. As his background slowly emerges, and it becomes clear how often and deeply he has been rejected, it became clear to me how much he needed... more a mate; someone to accept and love him just the way he is. Brin has also lived several centuries, but he is more self-confident. He may need professionals to help him find his mate, but in his job, with as little free time as he has, that is not a surprise. His thoughts reveal more of the background of this fantasy world, and I loved the hints about what is going on behind the scenes. And once Brin lays eyes on Darwin there is no going back, despite the possibly disastrous consequences for both if them.If you like to explore new paranormal worlds, if you enjoy a touch of mystery which gets revealed as you read, and if you’re looking for a short, hot read with more than a touch of paranormal, then you will probably enjoy this short story.
review 2: Wow--enchantingly fun and fast while achieving the deep level of characterization and emotion in so few pages that I've come to expect from Amber Kell. Includes the typos and punctuation errors I've come to expect too--not that I'd pass on one of her books because of improper sentence structure. I'm starting to think Ms. Kell is a punctuation rebel...thumbing her nose at punctuational conformity??? *g* less
