review 1: I liked this book. I liked the idea, I liked the characters and I liked the plot. BUT...it all happens so quickly and so easily that it became almost forgettable and...well, not boring, but not intriguing or 'can't put this book down' either. There is an attempt at angst, but it is resolved so quickly, because of the short length of the book, that it's almost a post-script. That was a real disappointment for me, because I'm a big Amber Kell fan, and I was looking forward to this book. Reading it, however, showed it to just be 'safe'. It was okay, but nothing more. Tbh I probably would've given it 2/5 if not for the innovative setting and good characters. I'll try the sequel though, which I will hopefully enjoy more. Do give it a read though - I may just be overly p... moreicky!
review 2: Worth a read but be prepared for some inconsistencies in character and story development. In some parts it almost seemed things happened without any explanation and I really wish the story had more foreshadowing as this would have helped with a lot of the inconsistencies. This book would have done well had it been longer in length and had the author read it over a couple times with fresh eyes. Still, if you are looking for a quick read between novels, its not that bad. less
