review 1: At first, I was very much into this story. Just finding out that Vertigo has a "Crime" imprint was a good thing. But talk about a book that loses it all in the end. Things really fell apart in terms of story here. It could just be me--and as always, it's all about individual opinions--but the ending pretty much killed this for me.I'm way into crime stories, and I've been devouring a ton of graphic novels lately, so perhaps I'd simply gotten too excited at this find. That fact aside, the art is pretty good here, so I guess that's something.
review 2: Andy Diggle is a writer that just doesn't get the kind of acclaim he deserves. While guys like Azzarello bask in the glory of their fans's praise, Diggle seems to sit on the sidelines, a poor unnoticed little wallfl... moreower. At least by most. I'm not going to praise anything about Diggle's work in this book. I wasn't impressed. But I feel like he deserves so much more than he gets. The Losers is brilliant despite the shoddy Hollywood movie made from it's genius. He had a short but fabulous run on Hellblazer. He wrote a great Swamp Thing. Daredevil, Green Arrow Year One. All great. And aside from this fairly bland piece, other than the Dark Reign Hawkeye mini, I'm ne'er disappointed. I don't hide the fact that I loathe police procedurals. And although this isnt something that follows those exact lines, I can't grade it any higher than three stars because of the FBI procedural involvement in the story line. The real saving grace here is the masterful art by Victor Ibanez. Grade: C+ less
