review 1: 3.5 out of 5I have not read the other books in this trilogy but I did not have any difficulty following the characters in this book. I enjoyed the book. I like romances where the characters start off as friends and develop into something more. Courtney and Max were a sweet couple. I really enjoyed the secondary characters, especially the band members. I liked that we got to see Courtney developing into a more proactive character. The relationship that she develops with her ex seemed unbelievable and a bit forced. The main conflict between Courtney and Max also seemed over the top. Max's reaction seemed out of proportion. Yes, he would be shocked and a angry at first, but his reaction seemed unreasonable to me.I received this book in a Goodreads give... moreaway.
review 2: This ARC was from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.4.5 stars.I love Ann Aguirre. She is phenomenal and can do no wrong. But I was so taken aback when I heard she was doing New Adult. Ann Aguirre of Grimspace and Hell Fire and Outpost? Doing New Adult?Why?........By and large, New Adult is a bunch of self-published junk. The writing is terrible, not to mention the RAMPANT misogyny and slut-shaming.But I shouldn’t have lost faith. This was excellent. A sensitive male lead and bisexual protagonist sets the book immediately apart from others in the genre and I was very impressed. As usual, Aguirre is a spectacular writer. I loved her approach to sex, sexuality, relationships- it was real and healthy. I didn’t read the books before this one, though I understand it’s a trilogy. It would have been nice to read them beforehand, but I don’t think it was necessary.I wholeheartedly recommend this book for people who see the potential in NA, but are sick of the sexist bullshit. This was great. Extra half star for just bringing value to the genre. less
