review 1: This book was a little bit of a let down, considering how great the first one was and the spectacular work that the next book in this series is. I honestly got frustrated with about 30% of the story - right after the heroine gave it up to hero out of nowhere with no sufficient reasoning behind her sudden desire to do the opposite of what she had wanted up to this point. Not to mention the fact that she got furious that the hero had lied to her for the first half of the book, only to forgive and understand him 10 pages later without ANY explanation. WTH? This is so not indicative of the writer's otherwise very interesting take on regency historicals. Honestly, I've enjoyed all others I've read from her, but this. I gave the second star for the prose - that at least was beau... moretiful.
review 2: Anna Campbell, has done it again! Another unputdownable, unashamedly romantic read. I loved everything about this book. The heroine, the scholarly yet spirited 'sleeping beauty' Genevieve Barrett, was immensely likeable and I enjoyed seeing her awaken to love when the hero enters her hitherto quiet sphere of existence in the country. And the rake in question, Sir Richard Harmsworth (aka Christopher Evans)...swoon...As per usual, Anna has created memorable and complex characters that draw you right into their world. I won't detail the plot but suffice it to say it was well-paced, had a great twist...and I loved it from beginning to end. I particularly enjoyed the lighter, more humorous tone of this novel; the wonderfully witty exchanges between Genevieve and Richard not only made me laugh but really enhanced the development of sexual tension. These scenes clearly demonstrate Anna's versatility and cleverness as a writer. As for the love scenes...Anna is undeniably an expert at crafting hot and sensual yet equally romantic scenes. An absolutely satisfying read all round. Thank you Anna! I can't wait for the next instalment of the 'Sons of Sin' series! less
