review 1: A. S. King can write like no other YA author. This novel has a compulsively readable plot, an identifiable heroine, and a magic dead bat god, yet it also manages to be the most feminist YA book I have ever read. That's a good thing. I hope every 14-year-old girl reads this book. Why didn't I give it 5 stars? I missed the warmth that King created in Ask the Passengers. Glory doesn't have any good relationships; she is just starting to form them at the end of the book. Her emotional journey isn't linear and doesn't have closure, which is true to life but not necessarily satisfying in a novel. Still, I would not hesitate to recommend Glory O'Brien's History of the Future.
review 2: This book is as strange and as magical as I had hoped when I read about it months a
... morego. I truly loved this read. Despite the strangeness of it, it wasn't so off putting, but instead I got completely wrapped up into this story and found myself thinking "why not? who says that this is insane?" I loved the characters, loved Glory and the fact she was trying to break free from the shadow over her without even knowing it. I loved how she grew within the story, loved how she took control. The characters were different, but horribly real. The plot was interesting and kept me reading until I couldn't make sense of the words and had to call it a night. This book is an amazing experience. less

I don't even know what to say. Bats as beverages. Feminism. A terrifying vision of the future.
