review 1: Emer was a fierce, bloodthirsty teenaged pirate queen in the 1600's until she was cursed to live and remember the lives of 100 dogs. Finally, she is human again and she plots to reclaim the treasures she buried on Tortuga. The book has the annoying storytelling cadence used in some young adult novels but the story is good and the romance and teen outrage at injustice and unfairness ring true. I liked the shifts from modernish times (the 80s) to pirate times but didn't really like the dog training manuals used to cover her years as a dog. A disjointed but ok read. Not appropriate for all tweens/teens because the historical parts of the book contains mentions of rape, beatings and torture but it's not graphic--I am going to suggest it to my nearly 13-year old n... moreiece.
review 2: This book is really original, and interesting. I've never read anything like it. It's about a young girl who had buried treasure many years ago, and was reborn as a dog 100 times (because of a curse), and then born again as a human with her memories intact. It is a very complex yet amazing book with a satisfying ending and a poignant message. It is very fast paced, VERY interesting, and one of my favourites. :) less

Only one word bored. Ember was interesting as a child but the rest of it is making me yawn.
