review 1: I'll have to investigate the science behind the story since it relies heavily on it for plot devices. I was not feelin' good about the old scientist getting it on with the hot young doctor after he'd been taking his "youth formula". Seems like too much a male Hefneresque fantasy. Yeah for viagra!. But I like it when fiction incorporates cutting edge research and raises awareness a la Michael Crichton. (Bova is not at that level). In the end, despite the introduction of technology, it felt a bit like I was listening to a reverse Harlequin, even though the old dude was reluctant to get it on with the chick, she just couldn't resist him - we wish - haha!
review 2: Well, I finished the book so it couldn't have been all bad but Transhuman is clearly nowhere near Bov
... morea's best work. Never a stylist or writer addressing deep themes, Bova generally is a reliable source of solidly written, well grounded in current science novels that are the literary equivalent of comfort food for a hard science aficionado. Transhuman, however, provides only the skimpiest of scientific ideas and concepts and the characters are nothing more than cardboard cutouts whose motivations and convictions change seemingly only in the service of the plot rather than as a reflection of how human beings actually function. Pretty disappointing. less

Not as good as Robin Cook. Some parts were slow, but an easy summer read.

I really like Bova's books right on the edge of science and sci-fy.
