review 1: This is the second "Blessings" novel I've read. This was as delightful as the previous one. The characters are real and interesting, with strengths and weaknesses across the board.This follows the story of Lily and Trenton on their way to the altar. The blending of families has challenges and this story is no different. But the power of love, thankfulness, gratefulness and faith carry the day. The story does a very good job of handling people and their problems especially concerning trying to discover how the past affects the present.
review 2: "Something Old, Something New" is the third installment in Beverly Jenkins Blessings series. The themes of this series are the strength of family ties, faith, second chances, and changing lives, along with a rather fasci... morenating look at African-American history told through family stories. The overarching storyline is more feel good than real, but the smaller inter personal dramas within are heart-tugging. I felt so sad for Devon when they went back to Mississippi -- although I didn't like how he was developing in this book before that. I liked Zoey's growth in this story, and the growth of several of the character's relationships. And I absolutely LOVED the arrival of the Oklahoma Julys! less
