review 1: I finished Secret Invasion this morning, and it was better than I expected. Bendis is hit or miss for me, and, honestly, I didn't expect a hit there i was pleasantly surprised to get one. New Avengers is nice, but it reads like deleted scenes or special features. I remember when Marvel would full-on crossover and just be up front about the reader needing to buy several books to get the story. That would be preferable to pretending that these issues contain meaningful quantities of story. They do, but ONLY if you've read/are reading Secret Invasion proper. Quite annoying. If you're gonna force me to buy two books, admit it up front why don't ya?
review 2: Reprints New Avengers #43-47. The Secret Invasion continues and the Avengers find themselves caught in the
... moremiddle. The whole Secret Invasion illustrates problems with Marvel right now (and in general the entire comic book industry). The Secret Invasion limited series was so convoluted and made little sense because it criss-crossed multiple storylines and other books. It couldn't stand alone by itself. If a reader were to try to "jump-in" with anything Secret Invasion related, they would be so lost that it could turn them off to comics. These New Avengers comics do help the Secret Invasion make sense, but for readers faithful to the New Avengers comic books, they don't work as a story since they are for the most part stand alone. With older limited series, Marvel tried to make the limited series stand alone and the comics stand alone with some cross interaction so a reader could skip a series and still enjoy the comics or vice versa...not so now. Bendis tries to clear up his polluted storyline in New Avengers, but the Skrulls' plan still doesn't seem to make much sense...infiltrate the Earth, then what? less

A little disappointing. The story wandered away from the New Avengers. Mostly a backstory.

Totally skipped over the fight. Weird and rude.
