review 1: As you may be able to tell, this volume is largely concerned with Venom and Brian Michael Bendis does not shy away from the chaos the Venom symbiote can cause. Mile Morales go through some major trauma in this one and as per usual, the volume ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. It also relies a bit on all of the Ultimate Spider-man story that BMB wrote prior to Miles, but he does a good job of catching the reader up to speed even if they haven't read all of it.Again, I think it is important to support Miles Morales and this largely diverse cast of characters, but it is also great that BMB is writing an extremely engaging story and has created an incredibly earnest and heroic character in Miles Morales!
review 2: Well that was...sombre. Fun is scarce in this volume,
... more where Miles Morales' life is turned upside down, shaken violently and left a heap of wreckage to be picked over by odd little busybodies and nosey bastards. Here's where Miles gets a little too much of the "close to home" action that dogs the Peter Parker's of the various worlds. I'm afraid of reading any further beyond this into the adventures of Ultimate Spidey - like I don't want to look behind the door in that abandoned house for fear some hockey mask-wearing loon will reach out and crush what few dreams of happiness and "everything works out in the end" might still be lingering in the dank corners of my obviously-addled brain.I haven't been this affected by a comic story in a very long time. Kudos to that cruel bastard Bendis for reaching out through the pages and punching me in the gonads like that. What right, what sick impulse fuels this streak of ballsy fealty to "good storytelling"?I am happy to see the Spidey-verse continue to evolve, and for the various good & bad players to up their game - it's like they're actually learning human beings, which is so rare in Big Two comics (or so it appears over the decades).I'm happy enough with the art - it's well drawn, though not entirely inspired in layout or clarity of action (a goo monster does tend to keep things from having clean lines, admittedly) and there's a lot of ways this could've gone a lot worse so good on Pichelli for keeping up her standards. less

Soooo short though. I would be mad if I had bought this instead of reading a library copy.

Clever. Really fucking clever. And I can't say enough nice things about Sara Pichelli.

So far out of the first three volumes this is the best.
