review 1: Real page turner; the 6th book I read by Camilla Läckberg; entertaining plot, complex, with many characters. Very sad story about a boy who was found close to his dead mother and who was adopted, but who did not have a happy childhood with his cruel stepmother, who ultimately had a child of her own and thus neglected him. Being jealous of his stepsister, he tries to drown her and she is reanimated by her father, but suffers severe brain damage. He became a writer and he as well as 3 of his so-called friends received threats about something that happened years ago. Keeps you guessing till the end with a lot of twists and turns. The author sometimes switches too much from one to the other. I like the secondary story in the background of Erika and Patrik which ... moregives a good impression on life in Sweden (they seem to drink a lot of coffee). The Erika character is sometimes annoying; she meddles with her husband's cases as she starts investigating on her own. Also she tends to lie to get what she wants and cannot keep the secret when someone confides in her. Each chapter starts with the background for the plot and the solution for the case is gradually being divulged. When the investigators discover something, it is withheld from the reader for a while, which is also rather annoying too. Still a great book, very well written. Looking forward to reading her next one.
review 2: I couldn't put my finger on why this book was slightly different to the other books of Camilla Lackberg's. Maybe it was the translation, but it gave the book a more cutting edge and a harsher tone. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy it as much as the others, I most certainly did. It had more than one of those, 'Well I didn't see that coming', moments! It ended on a bit of a cliff hanger too. I'm so glad I didn't have to wait for the follow up! Extremely good read. less

3.5 I like this series a lot. This one's not my favorite (I guessed it) but it's still really good.
