review 1: 3.5 starsThis second instalment of Cheshire Red Reports is probably just as good as the first, but with work getting in the way and not being able to pick this up again til much later, I lost all the momentum coming up to the finale that the ending was a bit flat.As much as I like Raylene and Ian, I don't really feel the chemistry of them being together - is it just me? I think Raylene and Adrian click more and have more of an emotional connection than her and Ian (fond of him as she is).Elizabeth is an interesting character and it'll be interesting to see how things pan out for her.
review 2: This book will have you smiling and laughing within the first chapter which is a rare thing in the vampire novel world. It was definitely even better then the first book... more in this small series. My only complaints would be that Raylene never really gets a good romance going with Ian. They just vaguely flirt with each other and Cherie Priest just leaves it at that. I would rather have that, if you're going to invite romance into your novel to do it wholeheartedly not in a half-assed way. Previously I have admitted that I don't like pure romance novels but I DO like novels with a good dash of romance and this didn't even have that. It was more like a small glimmer. My second complaint would be the overwriting going on in the action scenes. When something scary is happening I don't want an overload of details and fluff thrown in, I want ACTION. But overall this is definitely a very well written novel with an incredibly witty main character and a different view of the paranormal universe. less
