review 1: This is Tatijana and Fenris’ story. Tatijana has been healing beneath the ground for a long time and finally feels well enough to get out and explore, but decides not to let anyone know. Fenris has felt drawn to the Carpathian Mountains for months so when the rogue wolves head there, he gets concerned. That’s where he brother is. Of course, the two of them meet up and sparks fly from there. While I like the two characters and their basic backgrounds, the romance feels a bit stale. With having the both of them so set against having a lifemate, they sure succumbed awfully fast. Is the lifemate bond that irresistible? Fenris is a considerate lover and has some very romantic ideas, but I think he needed just a bit more aggressiveness. After being self-centered jerks... more, the males are going too much the other direction. Though Tatijana and Fenris do make great partners. I was somewhat confused by what constitutes a Sange rau. Is it a specific two or any two mixes? I think to the Lycan, it’s anything mixed with their race, which makes them very prejudice. I’m glad the Carpathians have better common sense. Though Fen seems to be very open-minded. I love dragons and when the two aunts kept popping up in the stories I couldn’t wait for them to wake up and become characters. Now here we have three of them! Tatijana: a blue water dragon and her sister Branislava, a red fire dragon. It seems Dimitri shifted to a brown (earth) dragon, so we just need an air dragon. Not sure what color that would be. White? The way this ends it is shows that it is definitely a 2-parter. I mean it ends with Tatijana and Fenris’ romance solidly established and they definitely have a big role in the next. But ‘Dark Lycan’s’ storyline ends only half finished. So, even though the next book ‘Dark Wolf’ is Dimitri and Skyler’s turn for romance, it continues the Abel/Sange Rau/Lycan storyline. Quick Thoughts: 1)The banter between Gregori and Mikhail always brings a smile. Their relationship is so complicated it’s cute. Friend to friend, prince to protector and father-in-law to son-in-law. 2)My fascination with Dragons goes back to the 60s with an early comp game that required waking up a dragon (without getting killed) to get the treasure beneath. Never could do it. 3)The scene with the kids at the party was too obviously a scene to get us up to date with their progress. 4) BTW, what happened to Gary? He was gravely injured, Gregori was trying to save him and then nothing. Fave scenes: Fenris’ visit to Mikhail’s house, the illusion trap fight at the farmer’s house, Bardolf and the fire spiders and Abel’s lake
review 2: I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I had never read a Christine Feehan book before and was going into this book blind. It was a book that my boyfriend had randomly picked out for me. I haven't read a lot of romance novels and kinda expected this on to be kinda corny, but it wasn't at all,I ended up really enjoying it. I found the characters to be extremely likeable and their relationships with each other were likeable as well. The two main characters relationship seemed kinda insta-lovey but I can't really blame the author since it's hard to get a good amount of character development in book and things have to be rushed a little. There was a good amount of action in it and I was a little surprised by at how this book as a romance novel focused very little on the romance and had a lot of action. I wouldn't say it necessarily over whelmed the romance, but it had a good balance between the two and I think because of that it would be widely enjoyable for anyone even if you don't like romance. The was only one sex scene and it was only a couple pages, it was also very tastefully done. All in all it was a great read and I recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy. Even if you don't, I still suggest you check it out, you might be pleasantly surprised. less
