review 1: A stand-alone novel from the author of the Joe Pickett mysteries, this one is not for the sensitive reader. Cody Hoyt's son, Justin, calls him to let him know that a former girlfriend and her younger sister are on their way to see him but they never arrive. Justin calls his dad hoping that he can began a search. Cody finds their trail, and goes to work with his former partner, Cassie. Very suspenseful but the good guys don't always win.
review 2: Well, what to say? Box's editor needed to take a firmer hand here. He offered too much extraneous information: The female detective's deceased husband was unimportant to the story but Box wasted a lot of words describing him. There were too many loose ends and cliched characters, and Box's personal political views came... more through a bit too much for my taste. Don't know if I'll bother with another Box novel, either a sequel to this one or another from the Joe Pickett series. less
