review 1: Yep been off sugar for years now thanks to this book. Jeez what a difference. Cravings gone, weight stable. Just makes sense. When I eat sugar I get headaches and feel sick (don't get me wrong I still 'fall off the [sugar] wagon'). It's hard at first because it's so habitual but you just change the way you view it pretty quickly - ah biscuits, yeah I don't eat them. Cake? No, but I'll have some chips, hamburger, sandwhiches, pasta, scones etc etc. You don't become a painful health-freak, you just don't eat sugar.
review 2: I read this book after watching the University of California's video on youtube Sugar: the bitter truth. I recommend that anyone interested in the subject should watch that video as I found it a better medium for understanding the subject th... morean reading. That being said I picked up a lot of useful information from this book and David explained some key points on working out how much fructose is in a given product that I hadn't fully grasped.In terms of the readability of the book, I read it in roughly 3 1/2 hours while on a flight and it kept me interested enough that I didn't turn on the in flight entertainment. That being said it can be quite heavy going in sections, not as well written as the book he wrote on oils / fats. Fair enough as this one came first ;)I would also like to mention that I have followed the advice and I have lost 9kg over a year (82kg to 73kg). I have not gone to a gym or worked out, the only thing I have done is drop all sugar. I have been fairly stringent about it, no sauces, no baked beans (formerly a staple), definitely no sweets, puddings or sugary drinks. I don't miss any of it (except maybe ice cream on a hot day). less
