review 1: Most of the reviews people have given this book are true. The characters are an emotional train wreck that keeps happening. And you watch. You watch as the train leaves the track and goes airborne. And you turn each page as more bodies keep falling out of the train and it careens off a bridge in a gravity spiral. And you think there might be water down there. But you don't know. You can't be sure because there's all this grit and dirt in the air; you can taste it in your mouth. So instead of phoning for help you just keep watching the shapes the train makes falling, because even if there is water below it's doubtful anybody could survive an accident like that.
review 2: Promised something edgy, dark and pacy but didn't quite deliver. Character development left
... more a lot to be desired, dialogue was weak and the absence of speech marks was irritating . Found myself skimming over the parts where the protagonist was attempting 'transcendence'. Curiosity was the only thing that kept me reading - I was hoping he was going to do something absolutely psychotic and gripping but the last 100 pages seemed shallow and ended with a mild conclusion that attempted to be shocking but actually just left you feeling flat, disappointed and rather depressed. Wouldn't read another of this guy's books. less

Not as good as his best Legend of a Suicide or even Caribou Island, but worthy of a read regardless.
