review 1: I thought that this was a well thought out crime novel. I wish I knew about the dictionary at the back prior to getting stuck into the novel but you can grasp what the author is getting at with the foreign lexis. At first I was quite apprehensive about the novel because I thought there'd be a more vast culture difference between the English crime system and that in South Africa but the differences weren't hard to relate to. The reason I only gave it 3 stars rather than 4 isn't because it's a bad story in any way it's just that I thought it would be a bit more fast paced and it just wasn't. But it's definitely a worthwhile read.

A nut starts emailing threats and then starts shooting cops ostensibly for the case remaining unsolved. Meanwhile, Bennie is struggling with his sobriety and his new girlfriend's. The first 50% of the book was slow because there is no progress on the case, then a series of breaks propel Bennie and his team towards the denouement. 3.75 stars. less
