review 1: Not as good as "Into the Darkest Corner," but that could be because I was more attracted to the theme of "Darkest" more do than this book. I read it in one day, but I'll qualify by saying I was also sitting in the hospital... I enjoyed it, and I always like Haynes' strong female leads. They may be victims, but they come across as bold, smart, and capable- a skill rarely employed by writers if damsel in distress stories.
review 2: Well it was a thriller and all the unreality in which this genre exists. Like many Hitchcock films if Genevieve had told the police what she knew right from the start, then there would be no story! I enjoyed it, though I wonder where she found the energy to work in high flying sales and be a pole dancer all night in a posh mens-club. I
... more was hoping she would get thrown over the edge of her boat and drown at times. I think this character may have been a bit of a fantasy character for the writer, living the high life, making thousands with a flick of her bum, moving to a houseboat (which felt the size of the Queen Mary). But that is the genre. The boyfriend Dylan character never developed and made you wonder what a supposedly beautiful intelligent woman saw in him except a bit of rough who gave her some hard sex, I think by a second novel featuring Genevieve she would soon have got bored. Simple plot which was held back and very readable, but far from memorable. Would make a good ITV 2-3 part mini-series. less
