review 1: And they just keep getting better!! Number 4 has a fabulous hero, orphanage director by day, crime fighter by night. Heroine, an older widow who becomes patroness of the orphanage. Crimes to solve, love to be made. Can this love last against social and age barriers? Plus all the characters from past and future books!! I have 5, waiting for 6, read 7 and have to wait for spring for number 8. I love this series!!
review 2: What an absolutely wonderful book. No doubt at all it is a 5 star read. I’m a semi fan of Hoyt as she is a fabulous writer, but tends to throw in the odd dull book. I first read her when the Prince books came out and thought two of them were fabulous and one dull, then the Four Soldier books came out and same again, two dull and two amazin
... moregly fabulous. I did actually part read the first in this Maiden Lane series with great anticipation when it first came out, but low and behold, another dull one which I put aside about a third of the way through and didn’t in fact end up picking back up again. For some time I’ve been meaning to get back to this series and start it off again, but it’s daunting when you’ve already DNFd the first book to then have to go back and start again, OCD me, always want to start at the start, but I decided to recommence with book 3 simply because the story line really appealed and I didn't want to stop reading these books again. Charmin' Mickey was in fact very charming and I gave book 3 four stars and very much enjoyed it, thank goodness. So to this one, oh joy, it’s one of her great ones! The hero was absolutely to die for and the heroine was just lovely. They made a beautiful couple and I ended up adoring the hero as one of my most favourite ever, which I totally didn't expect. I kind of thought on reading the blurb he was going to be a bit dull, but not at all, he's an absolutely gorgeous man. There wasn’t a dull moment in this book, which I read over two days and I’m now well and truly hooked on reading the rest of the series going forward.I’m also still of the opinion years down the track and many, many love scenes later, that this author really is a master at writing sex scenes. I skim through a lot of them now in a lot of books (still want them there though) but Hoyt always builds the tension beautifully and then wham, hits you with it, and they always seem fresh and delicious, so I’m pleased that hasn’t changed. I’m moving directly to the next couple of books in this series now. less

5 amazing, thrilling stars! I'm really impressed by Hoyt! When a series goes this long usually there's bound to be a book that's a bore, but so far this series has been amazing with each book better than the last! I have to say I'm in love with Winter! Like head over heels in love. My favorite heros are usually the bad boy, lost soul Derek Craven, Lord St. Vincent type, but Winter caught me by surprise. His quiet strength was soothing and compelling at the same time. I love how the romance survives the action packed story line. I hate when the action in a story takes preeminence over the romance cause then it isn't a romance anymore... at least not to me. Winter didn't speak much but when he did speak it was powerful and swoon worthy especially his back and forth bantering with Isabel. I'll never forget this book and I may read it again in a few years or so and Winter definitely ranks on the top 5 of my favorite heros.
