review 1: Through-out the ages man has followed pantheons of every imaginable divination. They have fueled our hopes, dreams, desires, and fears. A demon-god of the underworld has four sons that are Soul Reapers that collect the darkest souls for his consumption. But he is politicking for peace in the realms of Hell with his fellow demon lords. Now that one of his sons has been slaughtered, the race is on to find a little girl... the daughter of the now deceased Lokan Krayl. Yet his brother, Dagan Krayl, finds love in the arms of a "human" girl that is born to the sect of one of his enemies, the Daughters of Aset (Otherkin). The plot thickens and the carnage starts to pile up. I enjoyed this twisted tale of rivalry, hatred, seduction, politics, and cult deviousness. I am eager to se... moree if they find Lokan's "soul" and are able to reanimate his remains, should they find them, and if they can protect Lokan's little girl, Dana.
review 2: I won't say this is the greatest book I ever read nor will I say its the worst. I kind of felt like I'd entered the story halfway. The author didn't give much back story on the characters and the groups they are associated with. I really wanted to know how Dagen's father could sire four sons with three mortal women if Dad couldn't go to the mortal world. That really bothered me. I also found it annoying that the author repeated things nearly every chapter as though we the reader forgot that Dagen's dad only liked to eat Darksouls or that Roxy blames Dagen for making her into an Otherkin after their first meeting. The repetition of established facts was something Ms Silver's editor should have caught and since I'm pretty sure this was not Ms Silver's first series, she should have caught during read-thrus before submitting the manuscript. There were a few other things that bothered me, too while reading but not enough to really mention.I did like the chemistry between Roxy and Dagen. Their banter was quite amusing most of the time and time just right without seeming forced by the author. The sex was good though doesn't occur until nearly three forth's of the the way into the story and the ending was a bit rushed as was the "I love you" moment but I will be reading the next one to find out what happens to all the characters. So, as I said, not the greatest book but worth reading nonetheless. less
