Then Guido discovers that she had a nervous breakdown while in school, and will be pilloried as unstable. Her protector, a nun named Claudia is also involved, and forms a kind of spiritual bond with Guido. The ending is a surprise.

... morep satirical bursts of word-play. It alerted me to consider the translator, without whose skills I would not be able to enjoy this author’s work. I am sadly deficient in languages other than English yet am a keen reader of literature in translation which has opened up so much of the contemporary world to me. We owe translators a great debt of gratitude. The CWA’s International Dagger Award for translators of crime fiction into English is recognition of their value, but there needs to be more attention given to what we so easily take for granted. less

An quirky lawyer who takes on difficult cases and beats the judicial status quo. Very enjoyable.
