review 1: I love this book. I really liked the concept of the hero having to ruin the herion for her to receive her inheritance. I had a hard time liking Gareth at first, but as I got further into the book, I grew to love him. I loved Felicity from the very beginning to the end! I just love a strong heroine, but also willing to ask for help when she needs it. She is my favorite type of heroine. I can't wait to read Andrews book now. Thank you for another great book Grace Burrowes!
review 2: Gareth Alexander is that stock Regency romance character who tups anything in skirts at every opportunity. What sets him apart somewhat from his brother rakes is that he's bored with it and is finally outgrowing the ten year snit he's been in because he never wanted to be a marquess.
... moreHe's also never recovered from a terrible family tragedy. Felicity Worthington comes to him for help, a poor viscount's daughter who is in desperate need of his aid to claim a bequest that will allow her to care for her younger sister. This whole brothel plot felt ridiculous and contrived, and the fact that Gareth did not immediately examine the will to verify the outrageous conditions the solicitors told Felicity she must comply with to inherit was irresponsible if not criminal. He only checks when only one condition is left to be met and they are at the deadline. I felt ambivalent about Gareth through the novel, but liked him in spite of it. Felicity exhibited extraordinary courage and dignity under the most degrading of circumstances. Despite those circumstances the relationship between Gareth and Felicity had a steadfast sweetness to it. This novel introduces the romance of Felicity's sister Astrid and Gareth's brother Andrew. It also introduces one of the major secondary characters in both the Windham and Lonely Lords series, David Holbrook Worthington. The villain again seemed more out of a gothic novel with a vendetta against Gareth that endangers the Worthington sisters with increasing deadliness. Gareth Alexander is a larger than life character, and Felicity Worthington in her quiet dignity and courage is his match. They deserved a better plot. less

I've enjoyed all the Lonely Lords but this is probably my least favorite. It was too slow.

3.5 for unrealistic plot line but good writing & relationship nonetheless

Very good but didn't love as much as some other Burrowes books.
