review 1: ***partial spoiler alert***Although it is not the order in which the author released/wrote these tales, I'm glad that I read Maggie's story before I read this one. I preferred reading about a catty b*tchy mother of a duke's bastard (Cecily) first (if at all) then getting some sort of relief from reading about an all-too-human-"I-want-to-do-what's-best" mother of a duke's bastard (Kathleen). What a heart-rending tale. It made the "ever after" truly gloriously happy, I think.
review 2: GB is getting better with every book. I love the characters and the romance but the historical inaccuracies bug me a bit. The attitudes and language is often very modern. The Heir was worse...this was better. I like how the main characters heal each other. But the way the limitle
... moress girl is treated is shocking and bordering on abusive neglect. The resolution takes too long...but St just is a solid romantic man - scarred but honorable and loving. less

Sweeter and more believable than the first. Not as distractingly hot. But pretty delightful.

Ok. Parts were slow but enjoyed the soldier character. Ending typically for me.

The ending is a little abrupt but still a gloriously good book.
