review 1: Seriously I only give this book two stars is for the reason that the premise of the book seemed pretty awesome. . . THEN I actually started reading it. OMFG THIS BOOK WAS AWFUL!!! I even read the negative reviews but thought, "awww people are being to harsh for a book that sounds/looks this awesome. . . " WELP I was wrong, SO very wrong. I was pretty much done when the author had a, now listen closely cause this isn't a typo, A WHOLE FUCKING PAGE OF SIMILES! I literally died trying to finish that page, seriously I blacked out for a few mintues. Even before that DREADED page (ugh shivers) I kept trying to force myself to read it thinking the book would get better. . . it didn't. I just couldn't take the way the angel acted, and how he narrated. I guess the author thought it... more was cool having him talk in a 50's noir style BUT it just seemed like a man who couldn't come to terms that he was old (like when you see 50 year old hippies in tie dye shirts and pigtails singing of peace). The only plus with that situations is that the main character asked why, YET IT DIDN'T FUCKING STOP HIM! All in all this book sucked ass.
review 2: Interesting story, very "film noir", consciously so. The hero models himself after a character in a Philip Marlowe novel. But it's a story set in a unique universe, of archangels with multiple wings and cherubim with flaming faces. I found it interesting, though like most stories that edge along the side of theology, it doesn't address the issue of anything higher than the archangels. God exists, maybe, but only as a sort of metaphysical jailer and policeman. I liked it fine, but it's not a favorite. less
