review 1: This is a review for the entire Ill-Advised Rescue story as printed in the back of Magic Rises. This was a story based on rescuing Saiman, which largely features only Kate and Derek. It was in fact an enjoyable story and up to Ilona Andrews standards but due to its brevity it had too much action and too little else for my preferences. It should be noted that my least favorite parts to read in pretty much any book are the action scenes, this also happens with movies and television. It just isn't my thing. But the usual humor and great writing were there, but I don't feel it is right to rate it higher due to its brevity and action.
review 2: Ilona's loss was our gain. Since she and Gordon had to cut out a big scene from Magic Rises during edit, they were very gen... moreerous in sharing the deleted scene with us. In this part, Kate received a request to rescue Saiman from a bunch of kidnappers. As backup, she brought Derek and her hound Grendel with. This was a fun, light read; something to tie us over until the next Kate book came out. less
