Crowther and Westerman
review 1: When Harriet's new brother-in-law and family attorney, Daniel Clode, is accused of murdering a courtesan while on his honeymoon trip, Harriet and Crowther set off for the continent in a flurry. Michaels, a staunch friend and owner of their local pub, accompanied them, and being half German was not only invaluable in their journey, but and managed to solve a murder on his own. Set in a fictional German Ducal court, elegance and formality hinder investigation of the evil lying underneath. And then the Italian castrato Manzerotti, responsible for the murder of Harriet's husband appears as the Duke's guest and forces her to face her own vengeful impulses. Wonderfully researched, plot and characterizations are balanced with the perfect amount of historical and geographical deta... moreil to create a strong sense of time and place.
review 2: This is the 4th book in the series. This one takes place in a small town in Germany, in the late 1700's. A lady of the court is found dead with no mark on her, and Harriet's new brother-in-law is next to the body, his wrists cut, and out of his head. Harriet and Gabriel must come and find out what had really happened before Daniel is executed for the crime. A craze for the nobility at that time was different types of automata, and these wonderful figures find a place in this mystery. less

Interesting, but did not like this one as much as the three previous books in the series.

Just another brilliant book! Wish they wouldn't take so long to come out here in the U.S.

Great writer, though her stories do become progressively more convoluted.
