review 1: Well-paced and compelling, this was a good read. Not as good as the first in the series, but I'm still on board. I love Robertson's characters and her choice to give them true emotional depth. I'm not a huge fan of the way this story jumped so often between points of view; this gave the story a choppy feel. Possibly the technique was intended to make the plot somewhat less confusing, but I found myself confused anyway. Despite that, I enjoyed the book and look forward to the next!
review 2: My opinion of the second Westerman and Crowther is much the same as the first. The mystery is enjoyable. I still wish she didn't spend half the narrative with initially unrelated secondary characters, a tendency that I can only imagine will get trickier the more books
... morewe have to get to know the main cast intimately. But I do love reading about Harriet and Crowther, and that will keep me coming back to the series for some time. less

Just as much of a page-turner as the first book, if a little less plausible and more fantastic.

Wow. Even better than the first in this series. Utterly transcends the genre.
